Fortunately, angels still exist among us, working tirelessly to safeguard animals. One of these rescues is Joe Kirk, the proprietor of an animal rescue organization. When a shelter discovered Gregory had a serious but treatable health issue, Joe intervened to keep him from being killed. Gregory is a 2-year-old beagle that was rescued from the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus. Gregory looked to be a healthy dog since he was lively and energetic, but shelter personnel discovered he had heartworms.

Heartworms are dangerous parasites that are transmitted to dogs by mosquito bites. Regardless, they can be treated with the assistance of a veterinarian. If the dog is not treated, it will grow sicker, perhaps leading in organ damage and serious illness. Gregory was in a poor situation, and the shelter had to make some difficult decisions. Unfortunately, the shelter judged that death was Gregory’s best choice, but fortunately for Gregory, Joe Kirk learned about the dog and decided to try to save his life. He drove over to the shelter and greeted Gregory. He then offered to take the dog home and treat him.
Joe and Gregory were in love at first sight. The two clicked straight away. Joe didn’t even bother boxing Gregory, instead of letting him ride in the backseat of his car. He stated in an interview with Today:
“It seemed as though we’d known one other for years.” Gregory was thrilled to be rescued, and when they were stopped at a light on their way home, Joe took some pictures of the adorable puppy to show his wife. Joe had the cute beagle snuggled up to him, his head on one shoulder and a paw on his arm on the other.
The internet has been intrigued by these photographs of the thankful dog. The dog was definitely aware that he was being assisted and was grateful to his new friend for taking him home. Gregory expresses his heartfelt appreciation to Joe for saving his life.
